It seems a trend is sweeping Orcas girls athletics: bringing home championship trophies.
When the fifth and sixth grade SWISH Orcas Lady Vipers left Orcas on the red eye on a recent Saturday
morning, they knew they were in for a long day. Despite the early start to the day, the Vipers battled
through three grueling games, never conceding a lead to their opponents.
In their final battle against the league leading Cardinals, the Vipers came out of every break in the action with chants of “hustle” and “intensity,” bringing exactly that to the court. Thanks to a perfectly executed defense and great inside shooting, the Vipers held their opponents to only one basket in the final quarter, winning the championship by a final score of 16 to 8. This years’ championship marks the second in a row for the Lady Vipers in this age group.
