The Lopez Lamb, Wool and Goat Festival is baa-ack! Celebrate local agriculture on Saturday, May 13. The day starts with a sheepdog demonstration at Hill Farm (Center Road and Lopez Sound Road) from 9 to 10 a.m. and continues from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts.
The festival will feature various sheep and goat breeds, as well as cheese making, sheep shearing, spinning, weaving, felting and dyeing, and information from the Lopez Community Land Trust, Lopez Locavores, Lopez Island Farm Education program and San Juan County Textile Guild.
Local vendors will offer island-made goat cheese, textiles, yarn, fleece, meat and other related products. There will also be food vendors, including a grilled plate lunch with proceeds to benefit the Farm Education program. Special activities for kids include felting and a scavenger hunt. All events are free of charge. Started in 2011, the Lopez Lamb, Wool and Goat Festival is sponsored by Island Fibers.
