‘Leave no trace’ events

The San Juan County Council is working on a draft resolution supporting a “Leave No Trace” ethic in San Juan County.

The San Juan County Council is working on a draft resolution supporting a “Leave No Trace” ethic in San Juan County.

The resolution is a result of the local Terrestrial Managers Working Group, which reached out to the National Leave No Trace Center in Boulder, Colo. for help with trainings to instill principles in locals and visitors. “Leave No Trace” is a nationwide program devoted to responsible use of public lands.

The center is sending out a Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Training Team and hosting events September 25-29. The workshops are:

• Thursday, September 25: San Juan Island: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., meeting room downstairs at Key Bank, Friday Harbor.

• Friday, Sept. 26: Lopez Island: 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Love Dog Café.

• Sunday, Sept. 28: Orcas: 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Moran State Park, Cascade Lake, Day Use Kitchen Shelter.

Saturday, Sept. 27: Traveling Trainer Activities, Watmough Bay on Lopez and South Beach American Camp, on San Juan,10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
