Join the Friends of the Orcas Library at wine-blending workshop. Led by Jocelyn Bentley-Prestwich, from Cathedral Ridge Winery, workshop participants will create their own blends. The class is on Sunday, Sept. 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Orcas Island Library. The cost is $150 per person, and includes wine tasting, a take-home bottle of your own blend, and pairing of wines with gourmet treats. Make your reservation at the library front desk.
Starting first with a tasting of varietals from Hood River and the Willamette Valley, each team will try different combinations of their choice. Syrah + Merlot? Cab Sauv + Pinot Noir? Or a complex Bordeaux? From these, each participant will make a full bottle of their own blend to take home. The workshop ends with a final tasting of all the blends (and leftovers!) paired with gourmet hors d’oeuvres prepared on site by chef Lacy Woolery.
“This is a special treat because award-wining Cathedral Ridge Wines are not available here on Orcas Island,” say organizers. “And another bonus: the net proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Orcas Island Library. It’s a win-win!”
