Marilyn Parman’s Basso Dolce and Friends will perform at the next and last Brown Bag concert on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at noon. Parman is an un-retired virtuoso bassist from San Francisco and she will perform the Dragonetti Bass Concerto with Becky Johnson at the piano. The Dragonetti Bass Concerto is considered to be the toughest work ever written for double bass.
Thor Johnson, a super star jazz bassist from Friday Harbor, will join Parman and her jazz quartet with Patty Johnson at the piano, Linda Slone on solo flute and Randy Jerieski on drums. They will perform Part Five and Part Seven of the Claude Bolling Suite as a preview for their October classical jazz concert at the Orcas Center on Oct. 25. Celia Rosenberger, also a virtuoso violinist/violist from San Francisco, will be performing works by Biber and Chrysler.
The Brown Bag concerts receive donations that are used to fund scholarships for Orcas children to receive scholarships to music camps. These professional artists donate their time for the concerts.
