“Mostly it is just an effort by all of the adult groups to show what a lasting effect school music has; the things we got when we were in grade school and high school last a lifetime,” said organizer Joyce Burghardt of the fundraiser concert. “It has been a very very successful community effort to keep the music program viable in the school.”

It’s a joint effort by Orcas Island’s three major volunteer music groups: the Community Band, the Islands Sinfonia, and the Orcas Choral Society. All funds raised support the school music program.

New this year will be special portions with the school’s new band director, musician extraordinaire Martin Lund.

“Pam [Wright] is doing such a fantastic job with the elementary school,” added Burghardt. “They make a good pair because they support each other, and its just wonderful to see the cooperation and growth of the music program at the school.”

Admission to the concert is by donation at the door and gifts are tax-deductible.

“We hope everybody on the island will come and provide monetary support,” said Burghardt, adding that the funds are stewarded by the Orcas Island Community Foundation.
