Sandy Thompson, a local writer and director, is hoping to create a theatrical work based on accumulated pieces from islanders about life in the San Juans. The project is being supported by local writing groups and Actors Theater of Orcas Island.
Submissions should be based around events (happy, sad, traditional, odd, private, communal) and can involve connections with the mainland. Sensory attributes and/or dialogue may be especially useful. Each writer may submit up to three pieces. Forms can be poetry, essay, vignette, monologue, or short story/memoir. Story/memoir sections may be three pages. Other forms must be two pages or less.
Thomspon will be the lead writer and editor, will control copy and performance rights, and reserves the right to consult with others. Submissions will be used as draft material and may be substantially altered. Writers whose work is used will be shown the final draft script and have the right to opt-out. Otherwise, they will be listed in script credits.
To submit, or for more information, email Sandy at scape@centurytel.net.
Each work must be a separate attachment in Word-compatible format. The email body must include writer’s name, address, phone, email, and the title, or first line, of each attachment.
The submission period ends Friday, June 12. Writers of accepted works will receive notice by Saturday, August 15.
