New season of choir classes to begin

by GRACE MCCUNE

Special to the Sounder

Once again we’ve come upon a new season for singing. It’s my pleasure to announce the beginning of the next phase for the Orcas Center Children’s Choir and the adult “Rock on the Rock” Choir. The information for both choirs is as follows.

Orcas Center Children’s Choir will be meeting every Tuesday starting May 18 to June 15 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Off Center stage at Orcas Center. This choir is open to all children ages 6 and older. It’s a short but sweet four-week choir ending with participating in the Solstice parade in Eastsound. We will be merrily singing, dressed up and sharing the magic of our community’s children’s voices through downtown Eastsound. Tuition is$40

As the “Rock on the Rock” Choir has grown, so have we! This choir will now meet for two hours and I’ve extended the amount of weeks from eight to now 12 weeks. We will come together every Tuesday, starting May 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Off Center stage at the Orcas Center. This choir is for ages 16 and older. There are no auditions to participate. The only pre-requisites are the desire to sing and to have a good time doing it. In fact, we have so much fun it’s practically illegal. At the end of our 12 weeks we will participate in a collaborative event with other local musicians for one of the “Sunday Music in the Park” concert series in August. The music chosen for this choir is hardly traditional. We stand by our name and yes, we have a rock band too. Tuition is $90.
