Submitted by the San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau.
Earlier this year, as part of our diversity and inclusion initiatives, the San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau partnered with the nonprofit Disabled Hikers (www.disabledhikers.com) to conduct a trail assessment of the popular outdoor spaces on San Juan, Orcas, and Lopez Islands. The Disabled Hiker’s Guide to the San Juan Islands is now available on our website (www.visitsanjuans.com/accessible-san-juans-hiking-guide) and highlights available amenities, parking, and any trail features that could potentially be hazardous for users with mobility challenges. The guide is also available as a downloadable PDF from that page.
This project aims to foster safer and more inclusive visitor experiences for the San Juan Islands by providing detailed accessibility information for outdoor enthusiasts of all abilities. Users will be able to make better informed decisions about their hiking choices, increasing safety and satisfaction with the Islands overall.
We’d like to thank State of Washington Tourism for their support through the Tourism Sustainability Grant program – their funding helped make this project possible!
