Students and staff collaborate to host a fundraising dinner featuring homemade Asian cuisine.
On Sunday, Jan. 26, middle and high school students at Orcas Christian School gathered to host an Asian food fundraiser at the school’s cafeteria to support an upcoming mission trip to Belize. The event stemmed from OCS teacher Kyler Morgan’s idea, and staff and students worked together to create a delicious way to raise funds for the mission trip. Plans for similar events are underway.
Daphne Tyree and Kadek Suriadi managed the food and coordinated the efforts of the many volunteers who helped bring the event to life. According to Maria Burns, one of the attendees, “It was an awesome and fun way to raise funds for our mission trip.”
The event featured a variety of Asian dishes, allowing the community to experience different flavors while supporting a good cause. Its success is a testament to the dedication and teamwork of the students, faculty and volunteers.
Students hope to continue raising funds for the mission trip through similar events in the coming months. With the enthusiasm and support generated by this event, they are one step closer to making the Belize mission trip a reality.
“[The mission trip to Belize] will be an exciting, new experience for many people. We’re helping the local community build out their cafeteria, which will greatly impact their daily lives,” said Chao de Haan, who sold tickets to the Asian food dinner. The event raised $1,600 for the service trip.
The Asian food fundraiser was a fun, community-driven success that showcased the spirit of generosity and teamwork at Orcas Christian School.
