On the morning of Oct. 25, students in grades 1–6 at Orcas Christian School went ice skating at the Sportsplex in Bellingham.
Each year the students get an opportunity to go ice skating once or twice. Over the years, their ice skating skills keep improving and many of them are now quite proficient.
The afternoon was spent around Friday Creek at Pomona Grange where students were taught about water quality and given the opportunity to perform tests on the creek water. They tested the PH of the water, turbidity, oxygen and temperature. After conducting all four tests, they discovered that Friday Creek conditions are optimal for the salmon population.
To conclude the day, they learned the important things about planting trees, and they planted over 50 new trees in an area that is being restored from being overgrown in blackberries to a young forest. It was a busy, fun, productive day, said staff members.
