Orcas Island High School Strings and Band will be preparing a pancake breakfast for the community Feb. 8 at the Orcas Island Community Church. They are working in unison to fund a special trip to Disneyland/Universal Studios. Tickets are $10 each and are available directly from the students and also at Darvill’s Bookstore. Not an early riser? Don’t worry! There will be three separate seatings for breakfast: 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The planned trip to Disneyland/Universal Studios entails an opportunity to perform live on stage in the theme park and an exclusive recording session at the Disneyland Sound Studios led by a professional conductor. The trip is scheduled for May 16-19.
To date, the students have raised about $4,813.27 of the required $14,500.00 to cover their measured expenses. A substantial deposit is due by Feb. 17 in order to make the trip a reality. The cost covers airfare, transportation, lodging and entrance to three parks for 13 Orcas Island students and 2 directors. Orcas Island High School will work in harmony with Sedro Woolley High School to take advantage of a unique travel experience that only a larger school district can normally provide.
The students are energized for this trip and have been fundraising throughout the fall and winter with bake sales, a “Practice-a thon” and a myriad of small fundraisers. Please join us at The Barnacle at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 2 and 23 to listen to small ensembles. All proceeds from food and beverage sales that evening will be donated to the fundraiser.
Any donation is music to our ears. Please help these musicians reach their goal and donate today.
