Orcas Senior Center is brimming with holiday cheer this December, and you’re invited to explore an array of festive decorations, gifts and unique treasures for every holiday enthusiast. Our holiday decor offerings are available free or by donation, helping you add some sparkle to your home at a joyful price.

At Grannie’s Corner, browse a variety of holiday gifts, perfect for spreading joy to friends and family. And for collectors, don’t miss the extensive selection of Lenox Holiday dishes — ideal for seasonal dining — and beautiful Department 56 and Heritage Village Collection pieces. These charming collections bring nostalgic and whimsical holiday scenes to life, making them a delightful addition to any home decor.

Explore evening Vinyasa yoga with Karol Wilson

Discover the enriching benefits of Vinyasa yoga with Karol Wilson, DPT, a seasoned physical therapist with 30 years of experience. Held every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m., these sessions focus on restoring and enhancing strength, function, flexibility and balance (no class Dece. 24, 26 and 31).

Wilson, a recent addition to the Orcas community, emphasizes a welcoming environment where practitioners of all ages can participate. Modifications are available for those with acute or chronic injuries, ensuring a safe and inclusive experience for everyone. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable, loose clothing and bring their own yoga mats and blocks.

Join the needlework circle

Join our weekly gathering for knitters, crocheters, embroiderers and all needleworkers at Orcas Senior Center, every Friday at 2 p.m. Come hang out — no project required! Whether you haven’t knitted in years, want to learn to crochet or just want to relax and chat, we have a wonderful selection of donated yarn, needles, books and plenty of friendly advice. All ages are welcome, so join us!

Start your artistic journey with Drawing for Beginners

Join us for an engaging Drawing for Beginners class every Thursday at 9:30 a.m., starting Nov. 6. Led by the talented Robbie Walker, an experienced instructor in drawing and watercolors, this class will introduce you to essential techniques and help you develop your artistic skills.

A nominal fee of $5 per session is requested. Please bring your own sketchbook and pencil. For the first class, please also bring a handheld mirror. Drawing for Beginners will pause for a winter break on Dec. 9 and resume again the first Wednesday in March.

Create your own holiday potpourri

Get into the holiday spirit with a hands-on potpourri workshop on Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 1-3 p.m., led by local artisan Andrea Cohen! Craft your own fragrant holiday blend using dried botanicals and essential oils — perfect to bring festive scents to your home or to give as a heartfelt gift.

For just $10, all materials are provided, including sachet bags and a decorative container for your custom creation. Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot early! Discover your artistic talent: Watercolors class for beginners!

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of watercolor painting every Monday from 9:30-11 a.m. Robbie Walker, an experienced instructor with years of expertise in drawing and watercolors, will guide you through the techniques she has perfected. Watercolors will pause for a winter break on Dec. 9 and resume again the first Monday in March.

Participants are kindly requested to contribute a nominal fee of $10 per session. Please bring your own basic supplies. Fall prevention Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance class

Join Karol Wilson, DPT, for a three-month fall prevention Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance class. Wilson, a doctor of physical therapy with 30 years of experience, is excited to introduce this evidence-based program, developed by the Oregon Research Institute. Tai Ji Quan is scientifically proven to enhance physical and mental health, manage chronic conditions, improve neurological function and reduce fall risk. The class is tailored for ambulatory individuals with minimal reliance on mobility aids.

Classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. (no class Dec. 5, 10, 24, 26 and 31). The fee is donation-based, suggested at $15 per class ($12 for OSC members) or $100 for a 10-class pack. Financial constraints will not prevent participation.
