The Orcas Family Health Center has just put into service a new X-ray machine that will transmit X-rays digitally to off -island specialists as fast as sending an e-mail. “Within 30 minutes or less we can have a reading on the X-ray by radiologists affiliated with St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham. This provides a great level of security in knowing a physician trained in reading X-rays will be verifying the results. We can also send the x-rays anywhere in the world,” said Dr. David Shinstrom, the center’s medical director.
This much awaited, must see, sell-out event of the year is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at the Orcas Center. Talented local performers will return for this show which organizers say is a, “light-hearted, feel-good version of the popular television show “American Idol.”
Seats are still available to join Orcas Island Historical Museum members at their Annual Membership Dinner Buffet at Camp Orkila Lodge (Norman Hall), Monday December 8. Doors open for a cash bar at 5 PM. The $25 multi-course prime rib buffet includes salmon and vegetarian entrees, a free Museum Crazy Quilt raffle ticket, and free movie popcorn during the film program. The Friends of the Library will host the Holiday Tea and Open House on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Orcas Island Library. This annual event is a celebration and thank-you from the Friends and Library Board to honor the entire community for their support and participation in the life of the library, says Judy Schliebus, Friends Board member, who is overseeing the Holiday Tea.
