The National Theatre production of “Saint Joan” is broadcast live from London to Orcas Center Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Bernard Shaw’s play depicts Joan of Arc, a young girl who declares a bloody mission to drive the English from France. She threatens the very fabric of the feudal society and the Catholic Church across Europe. From the torment of the Hundred Years’ War, the charismatic Joan of Arc carved a victory that defined France. Josie Rourke (“Coriolanus” and “Les Liaisons Dangereuses”) directs Gemma Arterton (“Gemma Bovery,” “Nell Gwynn” and “Made in Dagenham”) as Joan of Arc in this electrifying production broadcast live from the Donmar Warehouse.
Shaw’s play depicts a woman with all the instinct, zeal and transforming the power of a revolutionary. The Evening Standard raves, “Rourke’s production shows that Shaw’s observations about class, religion and gender are still relevant.” The Telegraph declares: “Arterton convinces as the inspiring steadfast embodiment of blazing inner resolve.” Don’t miss the convincing and compelling revival of “Saint Joan,” a production which radiates with contemporary resonance!
