Salish Sea Wild features Orcas Islanders

Orcas Island-based SeaDoc Society answered viewers’ questions in the latest episode of the popular YouTube series Salish Sea Wild.

“This is the shows’ sixth season,” says Bob Friel, who writes and films the science-adventure series. “We’re always out in the field following the Salish Sea’s top scientists doing cutting edge research. For this episode we wanted to turn the cameras around and hear what the audience wants to know about the work we do and the local wildlife.”

Viewers filmed themselves asking SeaDoc questions about everything from “What does killer whale poop smell like?” to “Is that dark bird flying far away an eagle or a vulture?” to “What’s this squishy thing we found on the beach?”

Questions came in from across the country, and Salish Sea Wild! host and SeaDoc science director Joe Gaydos and SeaDoc research assistant Cat Lo answered six of them for this first round of Ask Seadoc, including two questions from Orcas Islanders.

“This was really a fun shoot,” says Gaydos. “We had some beautiful days here on Orcas Island beaches to go out and film the answers.”

A couple of the questions focused on Gaydos himself, including “Why does everything try to bite Joe?” and “How do I get his job?”
