Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival is thrilled to invite our respected elder patrons to enjoy a rehearsal of our Teenage Genius concert at Orcas Center on Friday, Aug. 16 at 1 p.m.
This free event offers attendees an opportunity to see how chamber music is created by world-renowned artists, including the Gryphon Trio, the Miró Quartet, cellist Robert DeMaine, guitarist Mak Grgić, and violinists Jeff Thayer and Cho-Liang Lin, as well as Founder and Artistic Director Aloysia Friedmann on viola and Artistic Advisor Jon Kimura Parker on piano. The open rehearsal has been a longstanding tradition of the Festival, giving senior patrons a first glimpse of the final program prior to the weekend performances on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 5:30 p.m., both at Orcas Center.
The Teenage Genius concert is dedicated to the memory of William Anders, the astronaut who took the photo “Earthrise,” one of the most famous images ever recorded. Anders, a longtime supporter of the Festival, passed away in a plane crash on June 7 in the San Juan Islands. A rendition of Franz Schubert’s Ave Maria featuring musical saw and Fiddlin’ for Bill, a string octet arranged by violinist William Fedkenheuer, are among the tributes. The closing night concert is sponsored by Anders’ wife, Valerie, in his memory.
Tickets to Teenage Genius are $40 and are still available at oicmf.org. OICMF thanks Wendy Hendrick Hiester for sponsoring the Open Rehearsal in honor of Andrea Hendrick, Ruthie Newman and Mary Poletti.
