San Juan County WSU Extension is pleased to announce that Clinton Gauthier will start as the new San Juan County Extension 4-H coordinator on Dec. 2. Gauthier brings skills and knowledge to the 4-H program as well as problem-solving, communication, administration and organization skills.
4-H is the largest youth development organization in the nation. In 4‑H programs, kids and teens complete hands-on projects in areas like animal science, agriculture, healthy living, arts and civic engagement. Youth are encouraged to take on leadership roles within our 4-H club programs, such as holding an officer position or organizing community service. 4-H is focused on the Positive Youth Development model where youth learn by doing and where they receive guidance from adult mentors who help them discover sparks of learning and thrive.
Gauthier grew up on San Juan Island, immersing himself in 4-H from fifth grade onward. As a member of the Country Critters and San Juan Livestock clubs, he displayed his skills by exhibiting rabbits, chickens and sheep. Gauthier’s involvement extended beyond animal husbandry, as he also explored photography and actively participated in state and local leadership roles. Serving as a state ambassador, he attended local, state and national 4-H events.
Gauthier’s dedication to the 4-H organization continues as a volunteer on the Know Your Government Conference Core Committee. He is thrilled to return to his roots in San Juan County and serve as your 4-H program coordinator.
Michelle Green, current interim 4-H coordinator, will work with Gauthier to create a smooth transition as he begins his role. We, along with our 4-H volunteer leaders, invite you to attend a meet and greet event on Dec. 4 from 11-2 p.m. to welcome Gauthier as he starts his new position with 4-H. The event is at the San Juan County WSU Extension office located at 221 Weber Way, Suite LL.
