The next Olga potluck on Saturday, Feb. 12 will be a very special evening for the members and guests of the Olga Community Club for two reasons.
The first is that the long awaited kitchen renovation of the clubhouse, originally built in the early 1900s for the Women’s Energetic Club, is almost completed and the unveiling will be at this potluck dinner.
Many members of the Olga community have worked through the years at Olga Daze celebrations and other events to provide the funds for this improvement.
The volunteers who served on the The “Kitchen Planning Committee” are: Olga Community Club president, Jenny Welch; vice-president, Paul Groeninger; secretary, Barbara Wheeler; treasurer, Lynn Emmes; property manager, Tom Zimmerman, and Steve Emmes, cabinet-maker.
At 7:30 p.m., the second special treat of the evening will be welcoming the new San Juan Council member for the east side of Orcas Island. She is Olga resident Patty Miller, who has been invited to tell the group about her new duties and answer questions about county government and local issues.
Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the program at 7:30 p.m. Since Valentine’s Day is shortly thereafter, chocolate surely will be on the menu.
