Spotlight on high school artists

Stop by the Orcas School District office and check out the new display of photos created by Corey Wiscomb’s photography class.

Maggie Toombs sees her experience with photography as “a new opportunity to see more beauty in the world.” When titling her black and white photo of Pike’s Place Market, she was inspired by a word from the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows: Sonder – “The realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own — populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness — an epic story that continues invisibly around you.”

Thian Armenia titled his striking photo of raindrops “Mirror World.” Both students appreciate that photography allows them the opportunity to share their unique vision with others.

Other photographers represented are Vanya Bullock, Celina Chapman, Yusuf Duni, Madison Pollack and Jeiri Velasquez.
