The Honorary Eastsound Mayoral Race is in full swing, with Ricky the Lizard Wizard as the current front-runner, scurrying ahead with a victory in yesterday’s Mayoral Madness to take an extra 200 OrcasSuperDelegate votes and the lead. Can Ricky maintain his lead until the election’s finish on July 3?

The Mayor’s Race is a yearly tradition on Orcas to elect the best animal to preside over our island through the coming year and, more importantly, to raise money for the Orcas Island Children’s House, an early learning 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Fundraisers like the Mayor’s Race help us keep tuition affordable for all families on the island.

This year a diverse field of seven candidates are running in the Eastsound Mayor’s Race, which goes until July 3. A lizard wizard, a dog being campaigned with her puppy pics, a Hollywood celebrity, a shy bunny, a dog named after another species, a ginormous cuddler and a tiny cuddler are all vying to be top dog (or bunny or lizard) of Orcas.
