As many islanders might remember, last year the Orcas Animal Protection Society collaborated with local artists to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art using fiberglass forms in the shape of cats and dogs. Artists donated their time and talents to create a unique design on the pet of their choice. The pets were displayed in various businesses throughout Eastsound and auctioned off following a fun scavenger hunt.
This year, an even larger number of local artists were interested in sponsoring a pet, and the APS is excited to be partnering with Rosario Resort to showcase the 2017 pets available for “adoption.” All of the pets will be displayed in the Rosario lobby during the months of August and September and will have their papers available for you to see the artist name and adoption fee.
“If you haven’t considered pet adoption in the past this is a great way to bring a pet into your home that doesn’t require housebreaking!” say organizers.
All of the proceeds from the Painted Pets Project will go toward supporting current and future shelter activities.
