Eat-Read-Talk 2009: A Celebration of African-American Literature All are invited to three evenings of food and conversation to discuss the work of three great American writers: Edward P. Jones (“The Known World’), Ernest Gaines (“A Lesson Before Dying”), and Zora Neale Hurston (“Their Eyes Were Watching God”). Barbara Lewis and Michele Griskey will lead the class, which will meet at Emmanuel Church on the last Tuesday of each month from February through April from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be a potluck dinner each month. The first dinner is on them. The fee for all three classes is $35. Register at the Orcas Island Library. It is sponsored by the Orcas Island Writers Festival. Classical music concert The Islands Sinfonia and Ginni Keith will present the first of a series of benefit concerts for the DVSAS Lopez Family Options Program. The program will feature works by Handel, Mozart, Bach, and Williams. It will be held at the Lopez Island Community Center at 3 p.m. A $15 donation is requested.
