Create your own beautiful paper lantern luminary to shine a warm light during the winter.
Classes for beginners and intermediate are taught by Orcas artists, and signups are available to reserve a seat. Drop-ins are possible if room is available. An RSVP is recommended.
Beginners meet for a 1- to 2-hour session. Intermediates meet for 1-4 hours. No fee to participate, and families are welcome.
The Orcas Community Winter Solstice Parade is Saturday, Dec. 21, and November is a good time to get started on your lantern – or lanterns. Make your own, or form a contingent with a special theme. A river of salmon? A sea of jellyfish? A pod of orca?
We send a big thank you to the Orcas Island Community Foundation and Orcas Island Parks and Rec for supporting these workshops. Learning activities are hosted by the Orcas chapter of the San Juan Islands Makers Guild, with support from the Paul Allen Community Accelerator grant program.
