Twice a year, an event just for women takes place at YMCA Camp Orkila.
Women’s Wellness Weekends offer participants the opportunity to do what they feel called to do, in order to take care of themselves. The totally optional schedule includes fitness classes, adventure activities, crafts, massages, and other miscellaneous workshops geared toward wellness.
One may also choose to spend time knitting by the fire, walking on the beach, reading in a quiet space, or even napping! “To each her own” is the motto, and a respectful energy and camaraderie pervade the atmosphere. Delicious meals are served, and guests can stay overnight in a selection of accommodations. Local participants also have the option of coming Friday evening and just for the day on Saturday, for $58, including meals and activities (no overnight accommodations).
The next Women’s Wellness Weekend at Orkila will take place March 5 to 7. Some of the activities on the schedule include needle felting, softoleum block printing, jewelry making, yoga, belly dance, jazz dance, nia, kayaking, challenge course elements, archery, nutrition workshops, chakra healing intro, and more. This is an alcohol-free and tobacco-free event.
While the fall event is for adult women only, the spring event is also open to any girl in tenth grade or older, who attends with her mother or other female adult mentor/chaperone.
