It’s May on Orcas, which means the local flora is putting on quite a show. Not only are the flowers blooming but the island toddlers are blossoming as well. Preschoolers and their families are gearing up for Orcas Community Resource Center’s Kindergarten Transition for 2021. Themed Your Kindergarten Transition Summer Adventure, the 2021 program is chock-full of all sorts of goodies and activities for our local little ones and their families. “We are excited to share that the program this year will extend over three months to foster the engagement, excitement, and anticipation of children entering kindergarten in the fall,” shares OCRC’s Programs Director, Jana Daniel-Webb.
Each month, from May through August, tots will have the opportunity to explore the island while prepping for kindergarten. Family engagement activities will include a trip to the Orcas Island Public Library, an outing to Moran State Park, a trip to Darvill’s Bookstore, and a final stop at the Orcas Community Resource Center.
In its 14th year, Kindergarten Transition is sponsored by a generous Orcas Islander who loves bringing smiles to children’s faces. OCRC partners with local preschools, elementary schools, the Orcas Island Public Library, and Early Childhood Education & Assistance Program (ECEAP) to ensure our soon-to-be Kinders and their families are ready to attend the Big Kid School in the fall.
As always, all Orcas children entering kindergarten, including homeschoolers or those new to Orcas schooling, qualify for this program.
