Alcohol stash found aboard Washington state ferry

San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to these calls:

June 6: U.S. Border Patrol agents seized a backpack containing bottles of alcohol and turned it over to local authorities after it was found stashed inside a women’s bathroom onboard a state ferry. The backpack later was traced to a 14-year-old San Juan Island boy who was picked up earlier in the day by juvenile authorities and sent to an off-island detention facility.

June 7: A San Juan Island man accused of shoplifting $6.79 of merchandise from a Friday Harbor grocery store was arrested following a confrontation with the store manager, which he fled. The 31-year-old, who was taken into custody later that day following an incident in which his mental health was reportedly in question, faces a charge of misdemeanor theft.
