Readiness to Learn (RTL) and the Orcas Island Prevention Partnership (OIPP) will host an all-parent meeting on Tuesday, February 23rd, addressing the important topic of “Safe School Relationships,” including bullying, internet safety, etc. The meeting will begin with a brief introduction in the school cafeteria at 5:30 p.m., after which there will be three break-out groups for parents to choose from. The groups are geared to parents of different age-groups, but any parent is welcome to attend any of the breakout sessions.
The sessions will include:
K-5th: Assertiveness and Bullying, facilitated by elementary school counselor and RTL Specialist Sandi Burt.
6th-8th: Cyber-bullying and Internet Safety, facilitated by computer applications teacher Paul Evans and Superintendent/HS Principal Barbara Kline.
9th-12th: Healthy Relationships, addressing issues such as friendships, couples, groups and “Just kidding–when is teasing harassment?” Facilitated by Laura Trevellyan, Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Services Youth Advocate, and Julie Pinardi, MS/HS RTL Family Support Specialist and Point Blank Club Advisor.
