As Orcas Christian School students complete their Measures of Academic Progress testing, the school is reporting strong student performance. MAP is a standardized assessment that evaluates a student’s knowledge in reading, language and math. Schools use the test to help educators identify student strengths and areas for improvement, guiding effective instructional planning.

According to OCS, students in the elementary and middle grades have shown promising results. Currently, 70% of OCS students are meeting or exceeding the 50th percentile nationally in reading, while 66% are achieving the same benchmark in math. The school also noted that these results include students with Individualized Education Programs.

“COVID really took its toll on student learning. I’m gratified to see that through great teachers and hard work, our students have overcome, and I couldn’t be more proud of them,” said OCS Principal Terry Pottle. “As test scores in the state continue to decline, I’m encouraged to see ours going against the trend.”
