The Glenwood Springs Salmon Hatchery on Orcas Island is seeking interested salmon anglers to help improve understanding of fish distribution in the region.
A portion of all hatchery salmon are implanted with a tiny coded wire tag that is injected into their snouts when they are juveniles. Valuable information can be gained by recovering the tags from the heads of sport-caught adult salmon.
Glenwood Springs needs the heads from the fish, the approximate location where it was harvested and the date it was caught. If the fish has a tag, they will get back to you with information on what hatchery the salmon originated from and when it was released into the marine environment.
