Aug. 16: A Lopez Island woman carrying several passengers in the bed of her pickup was arrested for driving without a license and without identification following a mid-morning traffic stop in the 3500 block of Fisherman Bay Road. The 21-year-old, who was pulled over shortly after 11 a.m., was also ticketed for driving 10 mph over the posted speed of 25 mph.

Aug. 19: A 21-speed mountain bike was recovered from the water near the Galley Restaurant on Lopez Island following an apparent episode of vandalism. The bike, valued at $1,000, was reportedly unlocked and parked beside another bicycle near the restaurant at the time it vanished.

Aug. 21: Authorities were unable to locate a 27-foot boat after it reportedly cut in front of a the ferry Chelan and forced its captain to make a quick change in course to avoid a collision near the Lopez Island ferry terminal. The boat was last seen speeding away in Upright Channel.

Failure to abide rules of the road prompted the early-morning arrest of an Orcas Island man for driving with a suspended license. The 25-year-old, who was taken into custody at about 7 a.m., was also ticketed for passing in a no-passing zone following a traffic stop in the 4200 block of Deer Harbor Road.

Aug. 22: A laptop computer valued at $1,600 disappeared from an Orcas Island man’s pickup in an apparent theft. The pickup was parked in the 50 block of Deye Lane at the time the computer vanished.

Aug. 23: A pair of pot plants were seized as evidence after an Orcas Island man discovered them on the side of the road near his home in the 300 block of Darwin Trail. Both plants were reportedly in orange-colored planters, one of which had a pink ribbon tied around its base.

An aluminum coffee table valued at $150 disappeared from an Orcas Island in an apparent case of theft. The 30 X 30-inch table was last seen at the KiKi’s Cafe on North Beach Road two days before it vanished.

A Shoreline man was ticketed for driving with wheels-off-the-road following a late-night, single-car collision on Lopez Island. The 20-year-old, who reportedly had just fled of a collision on private property a quarter-mile away, missed a curve in the road and landed in a ditch near the intersection of Bayshore Drive and Peninsula Road at about 1 a.m.

Aug. 24: An Orcas Island man faces an alcohol-related offense after a ranger at Moran State Park reportedly found him passed out in the driver’s seat of his pickup inside the park boundaries. The pickup’s engine was reportedly running when the ranger stumbled upon the 33-year-old at about 1 a.m.

Erratic driving and a defective license-plate light prompted the late-night arrest of a Minnesota woman for DUI. The 25-year-old, who was taken into custody at about 11:30 p.m., was pulled over in the 1200 block of Orcas Road.
