The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Sept. 15

• A Lopez deputy was sent to investigate a boat reportedly aground on a beach near Shark Reef Park. After searching the area on foot, no beached vessels were located in the area.

• An Orcas deputy issued a county parking citation to the owner of a boat at Obstruction Pass County dock for expired vessel registration and illegal moorage.

• An Orcas deputy took an incident report about an unknown male looking into the windows of rooms at the Outlook Inn on the previous evening.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a call to document an ongoing business-related conflict.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of theft. It was determined throughout the investigation that the reporting party was providing false statements to the deputy. The report will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision for the reporting party.

Sept. 16

• A Lopez deputy responded to a citizen assist callback.

• An Orcas deputy authored an incident report referencing a non-criminal dispute between neighbors over speeding on a private roadway.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a possible stolen credit card. It was determined the credit card was not stolen and a report was completed.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of vandalism. There are no suspects at this time.

• Along with Orcas Fire and EMS and state parks units, Orcas deputies responded to a downed aircraft. A single-engine airplane crashed in a field after a reported engine failure. The three passengers were airlifted from the scene.

Sept. 17

• An Orcas deputy authored an incident report regarding a prowler on Enchanted Forest Road.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a citizen assist call. An investigation for a potential harassment case is underway.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was found to have a suspended license and was issued a citation for speeding, and operating a motor vehicle without valid proof of insurance. The case was referred to the court for the criminal driving charge.

• A San Juan deputy initiated a traffic stop on a speeding driver. The vehicle was seized pending a search warrant based on a canine sniff and drugs and paraphernalia that were found in the vehicle. Due to recent law changes, the suspect was referred to Compass Health in lieu of criminal charges.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a cold hit-and-run collision. The incident was documented and no suspect information exists at this time.

• An Orcas deputy authored an incident report regarding an alleged fraud that took place approximately one month ago on Timber Lane.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of an assault. No injuries took place and the investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 53 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Sept. 18

• A Lopez deputy was sent to investigate a peculiar noise in a neighborhood. Neither the noise nor its source could be located or identified. Nearby residents suspected it may have been related to the heavy rain.

• A Lopez deputy assisted a motorist whose vehicle quit running in the traffic lane of Fisherman Bay Rd. When the driver was unable to restart the car, it was pushed off the roadway to a safe spot on the shoulder, and the owner was to arrange for a tow or repair.

• An Orcas deputy served a subject with a no-trespass warning letter for a local business.

• A Lopez deputy was called to pick up a stray dog that wandered into a village business unaccompanied by its human. As the deputy was getting ready to leave with the dog, its owner arrived looking for it frantically. They were happily reunited and sent on their way.

• A Lopez resident turned in an Alaska driver’s license found on a south-end beach. The license was logged as found property, pending claim by its owner.

• A Lopez deputy took a report of a violation of an order of protection.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a dog-at-large complaint. The owner was located and issued a warning.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a found property complaint.

• A San Juan community member found a cellular phone on the roadway and turned it into the Sheriff’s Office. A report was completed and the property was placed in evidence.

• A deputy responded to a septic alarm sounding at a Lopez residence. The homeowner was contacted and alerted to the alarm.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a person in crisis. The subject refused to go to the hospital. Due to the changes in law, deputies were unable to get them the help they needed.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a domestic dispute. One of the involved was arrested for domestic violence harassment.

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to American Camp concerning unauthorized off-road vehicle use. The drivers were contacted and a report was completed.

Sept. 19

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a person in crisis. The deputies arrived and contacted the people involved. As the deputies were preparing to leave, they were assaulted. One person was arrested and taken into custody.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a child bitten by a stray dog after trying to grab it. The dog was transported to Animal Protection Services, and the child was taken to the hospital by family.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a reported domestic disturbance. It was determined that the reporting party was extremely intoxicated. She became aggressive with the officer so they left the area. No crime was committed.

Sept. 20

• A deputy on Orcas located an individual on a property where he had previously trespassed. The deputy contacted the individual and informed him he would be charged with criminal trespassing.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a minor traffic collision.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a theft and criminal trespass complaint. The reporting person stated she saw an unidentified male take an item from her property without permission. The male was located and the item was retrieved. The matter is being investigated for criminal charges.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a suspicious vehicle in a neighborhood. The caller noted it was the second day the vehicle was there and occupied. The vehicle’s owner was contacted, but no crime was found to have been committed. A report of suspicious activity suspicious was filed.

Sept. 21

• A Lopez deputy responded to a theft call in which a plastic recovery cone, meant to be worn by a dog, was stolen. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy responded to a complaint of trespassing at a business in Friday Harbor. The suspect was named in a no-trespass order for the business. An investigation was completed and the case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

• A San Juan deputy responded to an intruder in a condominium. The complainant said an unknown man entered their home, accessed their fridge, and ate their soup before being scared off by the tenant. The suspect was not located, and a report was filed.
