Paul Garwood, owner of Island Hardware, announced that the building was broken into early Sunday morning, Aug. 31.

According to Garwood, Island Hardware’s surveillance system indicates that someone attempted to log in to the business’s computer system.

Garwood reported the break-in to the County Sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Cumming suggested that business owners invest in alarms and cameras to thwart break-ins.

“They’re not cheap,” said Cumming. “My best recommendation is to have a silent, 24-hour monitoring alarm system put in at all openings that detects movement inside the building.”
