The recent rain and forecast for more means the fire danger in San Juan County is now officially “low.” Burn permits are now available.

Residential burn permits allow a single burn pile up to ten feet in diameter. The permit fee is $15. They can be obtained from your local Fire District or online at www.sjcfiremarshal.org. Residential burn permits will be valid from Oct 1 through June 30, subject to changing weather conditions.

Open burning is not allowed within urban growth areas, which includes the Town of Friday Harbor, Eastsound and Lopez Village.
