The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Jan. 25

• A San Juan deputy responded to a single-vehicle collision. The driver showed no signs of impairment and the deputy assisted with traffic control until Island Towing and San Juan County Public Works cleared the roadway. A collision report was generated.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 48 miles per hour in a posted 25 miles per hour speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the owner failed to obtain a Washington State driver’s license within 30 days of moving. The driver was issued an infraction for no insurance.

Jan. 26

• A Lopez deputy responded to a drugs call. An administrator at the school confiscated a zip-lock baggie containing remnants of marijuana from a middle schooler. A referral was made to juvenile services.

• A deputy responded to a reported CPR in progress call on Orcas Island. Lifesaving efforts were conducted by EMS staff, but the subject was unable to be revived. The circumstances behind the death are being investigated per standard procedures.

• A Toyota Camry was driving without headlights after dark. The driver was cited for having no valid operator’s license and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Jan. 27

• A deputy was contacted at the Sheriff’s Office for a Citizen Assist. The person wanted to express their concerns about a civil matter. An information report was taken.

• San Juan deputies responded to a welfare check. On arrival, the concerned party was found to be deceased. Investigation revealed nothing suspicious; the death appeared to be natural. A Uniform Death Report was completed.

• San Juan County Sheriff’s Office personnel and Orcas Island Fire and Rescue responded to a reported bicyclist down on Deer Harbor Road. Upon arrival, it was discovered the bicyclist was involved in a single bicycle collision with no vehicles involved. He was transported to a medical facility.

• A Lopez Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle speeding on Fisherman Bay Road near Woodmen Hall. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding.

• A San Juan deputy observed a driver driving with a suspended driver’s license. The driver was later cited for driving with license suspended in the third degree and driving without an ignition interlock device.

Jan. 28

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 59 miles per hour in a posted 45 miles per hour speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding.

• A deputy was dispatched to a Malicious Mischief incident in the Friday Harbor area. Unknown persons had “tagged” the street and other locations. Photos were taken along with a report.

• A San Juan deputy observed a driver driving with a suspended driver’s license and no ignition interlock, a day after being cited for the same offenses. The driver was located on Feb. 1 and was issued citations for Driving while license suspended in the third degree and driving without an ignition interlock device.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a walk-in traffic complaint. A statement was taken and the citizen was advised to call in if the event happened again.

• A deputy responded to a report of a welfare check on Orcas Island as the subject’s mother hadn’t been able to get ahold of her. The subject was found to be alive and well.

• Deputies responded to a Friday Harbor residence for a death investigation. The subject was found deceased with no foul play apparent.

• A San Juan deputy observed a person with a warrant walking on a sidewalk. The deputy attempted to arrest the individual for the felony warrant and a foot pursuit ensued, with the suspect climbing multiple fences into private properties. Deputies were unable to locate the individual again.

Jan. 29

• A San Juan deputy located an individual with a felony warrant and several misdemeanor warrants while searching for another individual who also had a felony warrant. The individual was placed under arrest and was booked into jail.

• At approximately midnight a deputy responded to a reported vehicle collision on Orcas Island. Further investigation revealed probable cause to believe the male driver was impaired. The driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.

• Deputies on Orcas Island responded to a reported domestic assault. The suspect was arrested for assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence and arrested for an outstanding warrant.

• An Acura Legend was stopped for speeding on Douglas Road. The driver was given an infraction for 20 miles per hour over the speed limit and for failure to provide proof of insurance.

• A deputy was dispatched to a weapons offense. The person calling believed one of their livestock had been shot. After an investigation and examination, it was discovered the animal was not shot. An informational report was taken.

• A Chevy Cruze was stopped on Bailer Hill Road for exceeding the speed limit. The driver was given an infraction for speeding.

• A deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a welfare check. The induvial was contacted and appeared to be having a medical issue and eventually agreed to be seen by EMS. The individual was evaluated by EMS and was ultimately taken to the hospital for further care. A report was completed.

Jan. 30

• A San Juan Island deputy took a report of graffiti at the Gravel Pit barricades as well as the Surina Business Park wall.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a theft of plants taken from private property near Eastsound. After an investigation was completed and video footage was reviewed the suspect was positively identified. They will be arrested for theft in the third degree once located.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a threats report in Friday Harbor. Further investigation will be conducted. A report was completed.

• Deputies on San Juan Island were dispatched to a possible wanted person at a grocery store. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.

Jan 31

• Two male guests of the Earthbox Inn were trespassed from their property due to an incident the night before.

• A report of harassment was taken. It was determined to be civil.

• A report was taken of possible thefts at the Roche Harbor Sculpture Park. A statement was provided and an investigation is underway.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a death investigation.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a missing person complaint. The missing person was located later that day.

• A deputy on San Juan Island attempted to serve a court order via e-mail as permitted by the courts. The deputy had previously served court documents to the respondent via e-mail, but this time was unsuccessful. It appeared as though the recipient had blocked the deputy’s e-mail address.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a dog at large. The dog was picked up by the deputy and returned home. A dog at large warning letter was issued to the owners.
