Caroline Buchanan is offering a series of Friday work sessions called “Telling A Life Journey Story,” designed to help islanders record their unique life stories through the oral or written word, illustrations, with a collage, painting or other format. Buchanan will assist with planning, organization and technique. The sessions will be held at the senior center.
“Everyone has a journey story,” says Buchanan, “how you came to the island, or your trip through the inland passage, through the Alps, or on route 66.”
Buchanan hopes her workshop will encourage community members to record their stories in support of the upcoming July exhibit called “Journey Stories,” put on by the Orcas Historical Museum in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution. The Museum is encouraging islanders to contribute oral individual or family journey stories.
