Michele Rodriguez was sworn into her new position on the Orcas Island School District Board of Directors on Nov. 28. She was elected in the general election on Nov. 7.
School board members bid farewell to Ayn Gailey and thanked her for four years of service.
“It’s been an honor,” Gailey said. “I think it’s a more compassionate and transparent board than in previous years.”
Greg White was reelected for a fourth term and was also sworn in.
Chris Sutton stepped down as chair and Linda Sheridan will serve as the new chair. White assumed the role of vice chair. Bridget Broderick will remain the legislative representative and mentor Rodriguez with legislation-related items.
Other board members include student representatives Isabel Guerra and Juliette McKinney. The next meetings are scheduled for Dec. 19 and Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. in the school library and via zoom.
