Chili Cook-off on Saturday

It doesn’t matter whether you like it spicy, sweet or mild, there is a chili flavor for you.

It doesn’t matter whether you like it spicy, sweet or mild, there is a chili flavor for you.

The fourth annual Chili Cook-off will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Village Green. For $10, you can enjoy 10 samples of chili. There is also a beer garden.

All proceeds from the chili tasting and voting go toward buying gifts for the Island Market Giving Tree to ensure that no island child goes without a gift during the Christmas season.

“The Giving Tree is such a good cause and the Chili Cookoff is a great event to welcome fall,” said organizer Jennifer Pietsch. “It has become a tradition.”

Last year’s event raised $2,300 and featured a true Texas chili, a vegetarian chili, a lamb chili and a home-grown pork chili. Gil Bacera won the 2014 event.
