A memorial service for Chris will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Orcas Island Community Church.
Chris Butler, born July 17, 1948, traveled several times across the United States before completing his schooling in California and entering the work force as a department supervisor of a sub-assembly group making parts for gas chromatographs.
Because he was not in college and subject to the draft, Chris joined the Air Force when he was promised training in computer technology. The training did not materialize and soon Chris left the service with an honorable discharge to pursue the rest of his life.
He filleted fish in Morro Bay, California and drove a taxi cab in San Luis Obispo until dropping out to a small island in the pacific northwest called Orcas. After living in a small cabin made of driftwood and old barn boards, a year or so later he was back in southern California working as a gardener and rock and roll roadie for an all-girl rock band.
At this time, Chris was found by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Chris married and had children: Michelle, Julia, Sally and Casee. Sally and Casee returned to Orcas with Chris and his wife to be raised to adulthood.
Chris worked as an electrician and also helped to run two adult family homes until his marriage ended and he returned to electrical contracting. When Chris retired from electrical work, he took a part-time job as a San Juan County Census taker, which he continued to do until he could no longer talk understandably. Chis has now gone on to Heaven.
