Once again, Christina Orchid, famed local chef, has scheduled a series of cooking classes sure to satisfy our island foodies. The classes, to be held in the barn of Orchid’s West Sound farm, Green Dolphin Farm, will be held throughout the months of May and June with a few special treats saved for mid-summer.
The May series kicks off on May 6 with Gil Becerra, noted chef at Chimayo’s, as he demonstrates how to prepare new Latin cuisine in the spirit of Cinco de Mayo.
On Monday, May 12 local favorite Mai Lan shares the secrets of Vietnamese cuisine, considered one of the top three cuisines in the world, behind French & Italian. Mai Lan will be preparing Cia Gao and other phenomenal treats.
Tuesday, May 20 will feature another great form of international cooking, Greek Cuisine. Christina has culled one of her favorite local chefs to delight students with the food and tales of the Greek islands.
“It’s been my great pleasure to give back to the community through two of the great passions in my life” notes Ms. Orchid, “Of course, people know me for my cooking, but a great cause in my life has also been early-childhood education and helping to support our island’s working parents.”
All classes are designed for 30 students and will run from 4 to 7 p.m Each course features tastings of all the foods prepared plus appropriate wine pairings. Courses are $100 per student. Call Children’s House for more details or to sign-up for a course at 376-4744.
