The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

August 21

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of an animal bite. The victim was fine and did not need stitches, and the dog and its owner were located and given a citation. The case was then forwarded to the Sheriff’s Office for a declaration status for the dog.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a reported theft at a local business. The suspect left prior to the deputy’s arrival. The following day, the suspect returned to the business and was issued a citation for theft in the third degree.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a juvenile problem and found no evidence of anything criminal.

August 22

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a suspicious call.

• Deputies on San Juan arrested a person on an out-of-state warrant during an investigation of another matter. The person was then transported to the Sheriff’s Office and held on the warrant.

• Deputies were dispatched to an order violation in Friday Harbor area. The deputy spoke with all the persons involved in the incident.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a possible accident-with-injury in the Rosario area. After the driver declined medical aid an investigation was completed, as the only occupant they were arrested for driving under the influence and processed.

August 23

• Deputies were dispatched to a malicious mischief report on San Juan after a person called to report damage to a motorized gate.

•The Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle collision with injury in Eastsound. The at-fault driver failed to yield the right of way to another vehicle and collided. Both drivers were issued citations for not wearing seat belts; and the at-fault driver was cited for failing to yield right of way.

• On Orcas, a deputy responded to a report of a cold hit-and-run. The incident was investigated; deputies had no information about a suspect.

• A Lopez deputy was flagged down regarding a citizen assist.

• A deputy filed an anti-harassment order after a commuter, who frequents the ferry from Lopez, said a local farm owner had been harassing them and making racially charged comments.

August 24

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a vandalism complaint.

• Lopez deputies contacted two men suspected of crab pot theft. Probable cause was not established.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a cold domestic assault. The suspect had left the county and the victim was in a safe location. The case was forwarded to the prosecutor for charging.

August 25

• A deputy booked a piece of property found on Orcas as evidence.

August 26

• A representative of a Lopez homeowners association called regarding misuse of HOA property. Since civil litigation is pending, deputies offered paperwork or a standby to assure the peace.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of the theft of a political sign. The suspected individual was contacted the next day, had the sign, and admitted to taking it. They received a criminal citation and the sign was recovered.

August 27

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a report of an unwanted person.

• At an intersection on Lopez a deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for failing to comply with a flagger/firefighter.

• A deputy and Lopez Fire & EMS were dispatched to an accident-injury of a bicyclist. The cyclist had minor cuts and scrapes and did not need further EMS treatment.

• Lopez deputies responded when a citizen walked into a bank and told bank staff he was feeling homicidal. The citizen later explained to the deputies that it was a misunderstood joke.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 63 mph in a 40 mph hour zone.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision. One occupant, outside the car, was rescued; the driver was found to be deceased. The county coroner responded and completed the report.
