Creative composting at Garden club

The Orcas Island Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Orcas Center to hear Kristina Bayas, volunteer coordinator for WSU extension in San Juan County, talk about Creative Composting.

The Orcas Island Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Orcas Center to hear Kristina Bayas, volunteer coordinator for WSU extension in San Juan County, talk about Creative Composting.

Bayas will provide practical tips on how to enrich soils through hassle free composting and worm bins. She will have applications and information on the 2009 Master Gardening Class to be held in Friday Harbor available.

Bayas, who has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, served in the Peace Corps in Ecuador.

The Garden Club meeting is open to the public. Club membership are $20 annually for a single membership and $25 f or couples. The fees cover expenses for guest speakers and meeting space.

The Orcas Island Garden Club organizers say, “Our goal is to help everyone who lives on Orcas enjoy their gardening to the fullest. Speakers direct lessons toward issues faced in the garden and to bringing greater beauty to the exciting environment.
