Criminal camping; trio of trespassers | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:

March 5

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was issued a citation for driving while license suspended in the third degree.

• An Orcas Island deputy was flagged down by a local citizen who reported that someone was illegally camping on their property. The incident was documented, and the property owner plans to remove the illegal campsite from their property.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 39 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed, and a warning was given for having a front-seat passenger under 13 years old.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an animal problem involving a dog attacking the reporting party’s dog while on a walk. The owner of the attacking dog was issued a citation for failing to comply with potentially dangerous dog restrictions.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 54 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone and for driving left of center. The driver was issued an infraction for speed, and warnings were given for driving left of center and for window tint.

March 7

• San Juan Deputies responded to a report of drug possession at the high school. Upon arrival, deputies were told by school staff that they had found cannabis and nicotine on a student. This case will be forwarded to the prosecutor and Juvenile Court for review.

• An Orcas Island deputy assisted a local business owner in the Eastsound area by trespassing an individual experiencing a mental health crisis. The individual refused to allow the deputy to help them and disrupted employees who were working.

• A driver was stopped on San Juan Island for expired tabs over four years old. The driver was issued an infraction for expired registration and no proof of insurance.

March 8

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 36 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed, and additional warnings were given.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for failure to transfer the title. The driver was issued an infraction for no insurance.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested for driving while license suspended in the third degree, and an infraction was issued for no insurance.

March 9

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for expired registration. The driver was issued an infraction for no insurance.

• An Orcas Island Deputy arrested a subject on an out-of-state felony warrant. The subject was booked into jail in Friday Harbor and is awaiting extradition on the warrant.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a domestic violence call. After an investigation, it was determined to be a verbal altercation, and the incident was documented.

March 10

• A man was trespassed from a Friday Harbor business.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a theft call at a local business. The incident was determined to be a misunderstanding and was documented.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of theft that possibly occurred a couple of months prior. A report was completed.

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of a domestic incident with mental health concerns in Friday Harbor. After an investigation, no crime had appeared to have occurred. A report was completed.

March 11

• An Orcas Island Deputy arrested three subjects for criminal trespass in the second degree from a property on Crescent Beach Road. All three subjects were booked into jail in Friday Harbor.
