Rosalyn Truett has been a CNA and compassionate caregiver, assisting elders on Orcas for more than 10 years. She has recently experienced financial hardship after being flown off-island twice, undergoing two electrical heart surgeries, and suffering from a blood clot in her optic nerve that resulted in blindness to her right eye.
In late December Truett’s eye was surgically removed due to impending pain and other related issues. The surgery has been named a complete success and she is resting and healing for the next eight weeks. She will receive her prosthesis later in the spring.
Truett thanks the many people who have brought pots of soup, and friends who have assisted post-surgery. She is also grateful for the woman who has taken her back and forth to Seattle for her many doctor visits as well as the anonymous donors who gave money when her insurance premium was due. She was also blessed by a man who showed up and stacked a cord of wood for her without ever meeting her. Living in community on Orcas Island has been an experience for which Truett will be forever thankful.
A donation fund has been set up at Islanders Bank to help with her living expenses. Donations should say attention to Kathy Kantrud.
