The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

April 3

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of the theft of a Pride Foundation sign from a yard. Currently, there is no suspect information or workable leads.

• A Friday Harbor business reported someone broke in and slept inside the business. No damage was done to the entry and nothing was stolen. An investigation is underway.

• On San Juan, a deputy conducted a traffic stop and took the driver into custody for driving under the influence. The driver was booked into the San Juan County Jail and issued multiple citations.

April 4

• A Lopez man was arrested for reckless driving and the deputy requested a health referral.

• A deputy on San Juan conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for driving 38 MPH in a posted 25 MPH zone.

• Another driver on San Juan was stopped and received a citation for driving 39 MPH in a posted 25 MPH zone.

• Also on San Juan, a deputy conducted a traffic stop after the driver had driven left of center and did not maintain his lane. As a result, the driver received citations for using a personal electronic device while driving, and for operating a vehicle without insurance.

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on San Juan and issued the driver a citation for having a child under 13 years old in the front passenger seat.

• One driver on San Juan received several citations after he nearly hit a deputy head-on on a corner. The driver, who stated he knew he almost hit the deputy, didn’t stop and also admitted to being on his cell phone at the time of the incident.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle rollover collision. The driver was arrested for DUI and booked into jail.

• A deputy on Orcas received a fraud complaint.

• A Lopez deputy and Lopez Fire & EMS were dispatched to an emergency call that turned into a death investigation. The death appeared to be of natural causes and the funeral home was contacted.

April 5

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of an unresponsive person. The person was treated by San Juan Aid and was declared deceased.

• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding an alleged trespassing issue. No crime occurred and the other party was reminded of an existing trespass admonishment letter currently on file.

April 6

• A deputy responded to a report of a runaway juvenile in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy located the juvenile but was informed the parent no longer wished to pursue the issue.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of suspicious activity at a residence. When the deputy arrived, a vehicle pulled into the driveway before quickly reversing and fleeing. The driver fled on foot, was located in the residence later, and booked on several charges.

April 7

• A driver’s license was found along the roadway near American Camp and turned into the Sheriff’s Office on San Juan. After several attempts were unsuccessful at contacting the owner, the driver’s license was placed into evidence as found property.

• A deputy on San Juan heard what sounded like a vehicle doing “donuts” near the area of the Fairgrounds. Once the deputy arrived on the scene, the vehicle was gone but the deputy observed significant damage to the grass.

April 8

• An assorted box of old ammunition was turned into the San Juan Sheriff’s Office for destruction. It was booked into the property room.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of threats. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy who took a report of harassment on San Juan, referred the reporting party to the San Juan County Courts to petition for a no-contact order and provided them with information on Safe San Juans.

April 9

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and failed to yield the right of way to another vehicle in a traffic circle. Consequently, the driver received a citation for failing to wear a safety belt.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the driver was not wearing a safety belt, and issued them a citation for that failure.

• A driver who was wearing earbuds while driving and not wearing a seatbelt was also stopped by a deputy on San Juan and received a citation for failing to wear a seatbelt.

• Two more drivers on San Juan were stopped for not wearing their seatbelts, and each received a citation for said offense.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle as the driver was not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued a citation for failure to wear a safety belt.

• Another driver on San Juan, who was stopped by a deputy and issued a citation for not wearing a seatbelt, also received citations for not having insurance, and for not having their driver’s license on their person. The driver also received a warning.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for an expired registration from 2022 and issued them a citation for having an expired registration for more than two months.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for not wearing a seatbelt and issued them a citation for that offense and a warning for an expired registration.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for an expired registration from 2022. The driver was issued a citation for an expired registration of more than two months, and the car’s passenger received a warning for not wearing a seatbelt.

• Deputies stopped a San Juan driver because they were using a cell phone while driving and issued the driver a citation for using a personal electronic device while driving.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the driver and a passenger were not wearing seatbelts. The driver received citations for failing to wear a seatbelt and for not having insurance. The passenger also received a citation for failing to wear a seatbelt. The deputy also issued the driver multiple warnings.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a fraud call. The reporting party had lost money when they were scammed into buying gift cards.
