At approximately 8:05 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, a Volkswagen Jetta was driving southbound on Cattle Point Road at a high rate of speed when it struck the backend of a van traveling in the same direction.

The passenger in the Jetta was trapped inside the car who had to be extricated by the San Juan Fire Department. The passenger was then transported to the PeaceHealth Peace Island Medical Center emergency room where he was treated for his injuries.

The driver was arrested for vehicular assault. An investigation is currently underway.
