Eastsound Water announces recall election results

Submitted by EWUA.

Eastsound Water Users Association announced the results on Oct. 6 of the 2024 Board of Director Recall vote.

The directors retained are Teri Nigretto, James Nelson, Leith Templin and Michael Cleveland. Directors recalled from the board are Jim Cook, Ron Claus and Carol Ann Anderson. Recalled directors were immediately removed from the EWUA board.

The vote took place at a special member meeting held on Sept. 28. Counting and verifying the votes was done by retired San Juan County Judge Stewart Andrew. He assembled a volunteer team that included Patty Miller, Richard Fralick and other Orcas Islanders. Judge Andrew delivered his results to a filled room at the Eastsound Firehouse a little after 5 p.m. on Oct. 6.

“The membership made their voices heard,” said Board President Nigretto. “It’s just so unfortunate that such a small number of people can cause so much damage to the Association and our community. We are glad this is over so we can get back to the business of running a water company.”

The board expressed heartfelt appreciation to Judge Andrew and his team for the 200-plus volunteer hours they spent counting and verifying the vote. They also thanked the EWUA staff for their diligence and the association membership for their patience and participation. The meeting was adjourned a little past 5:30 pm.
