Chess: The Orcas Chess Club meets at Eastsound Library at 3:30 p.m., every Monday afternoon. Members age five to 105 with exceptions at both ends are welcome. Contact Phil Heikkinen at the library for details.
Al-Anon: The Al-Anon group on Orcas meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Parish Hall to the right of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Al-Anon is for friends and family of alcoholics.

Open mic: The Lower Tavern has open mic night weekly starting at 7:30 p.m. Jaen Black will host the event. Everyone is welcome.

Theosophical Library: Indralaya’s Theosophical Library is open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. The theosophical discussion group also meets at Indralaya from 7:30 to 9 p.m. For info call 376-4526 or email indralaya@indralaya.com.

Open Mic Pizza Night: A weekly benefit at Doe Bay Resort Cafe with a different nonprofit organization chosen to benefit each month. Dinner served from 6 to 10 p.m. and the Open Mic starts between 7 and 8 p.m.
Donation drop-off: Granny’s Attic sale items can be dropped off at the Orcas Senior Centers on Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m from March 12 to April 16.

Ping Pong: The Orcas Table Tennis Association plays at the Orcas Christian School gym. The table tennis games run from 6 to 8 p.m. For more info, call Jamey Hanse at 376-2240.

Music education lecture: Dr. Patricia Campbell with the University of Washington will present a lecture for the community from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Eastsound Fire Hall. Parents, caregivers, and teachers interested in learning about early music education are invited to attend the free talk.
Grief Recovery group: A grief recovery group will begin meeting on Thursday, April 16 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the parish hall of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Eastsound. The series of six meetings will continue until May 28 (skipping April 30).

Book signing: Knute Berger, Seattle author of “Pugetopolis,” will be at Darvill’s Book Store at 7 p.m. for a free reading.

Kids poetry: The Orcas Island Public Library invites the Orcas community to a poetry reading featuring young poets reading their original poems at 7 p.m. in the library’s meeting room. In celebration of National Poetry Month, poems written by students ages 7 to 18 years are on display in the Library’s meeting room throughout April. Kenyan experience: Grace Kuto will share an African cultural experience of music, food, cooking, reading and sharing stories. The day’s events, in the parish hall of Emmanuel Episcopal church, include the cooking class at 10 a.m., book signing from noon and Kenyan dinner at 6 p.m. For more information call 376-1001.
PTSA rollerskate repair party: From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Old Gym. Bring a socket set, screwdriver or pliers, if you have them, and join the PTSA and Kiwanis Club as they refurbish all the skates they can. Call 376-3930 for more information.
Granny’s Attic: The annual sale of donated items is from 10 to 3 p.m. at the Orcas Senior Center.
Clean up Moran: The state park annual clean up day will start at 10 a.m. at the Cascade Lake day use area. Refreshments and lunch will be served. Bring gloves and tools to use.

Green grows the story: Eth-Noh-Tec, Orcas Island storytellers Nancy Wang and Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo, will present “Green Stories!” at the Odd Fellows Hall at 7 p.m. Through ancient Asian myths and folktales, the performance celebrates the love of the Earth through myths and folk tales. Celebrating 40 years: The Children’s House will be hosting an Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with refreshments provided.
