Ballroom dance: The Southern Utah University Ballroom Dance Company will perform “Simply Ballroom,” at the Orcas Center at 7:30 p.m.

PTSA: The topic of the next PTSA Meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the school library will be “Sex Education in the School: What is Taught and When?”

Friday, May 15

Saint Augustine: “The Confessions of Saint Augustine” will be performed at the Eastsound Community Church at 7 p.m. with a reception to follow. Admission by donation. For more information, call 376-6847.

Movie night: PTSA family movie night will feature Disney’s “Bolt,” 7 p.m., school cafeteria. Suggested Donation: $5 per family (but no one will be turned away for lack of funds). Free popcorn.

Saturday, May 16

Parent/Child Breadmaking Playgroup reunion: From 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Parish Hall. Bring salad, penny jar and photos of your child. Mostly for the parents but children can come too, from 1991-2008. Call Kathi Ciskowski at 376-4186.

Dana Lyons in concert: At 4 p.m. at the Outlook Inn. A fundraiser for Salmonberry School. Tickets: Outlook Inn, The Kitchen, Salmonberry School, at the May 16 Farmer’s Market and at the door.

Orcas Farmers’ Market: The next two farmers’ markets will be held on Prune Alley between A Street and Fern Street.

Yard sale: Deer Harbor Community Club yard and bake sale and baked potato lunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All Island Preschools Open House: Tour Children’s House, Salmonberry Preschool, Orcas Montessori School and Kaleidoscope all on one day. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Staff members will be available at each school. For more information, contact each school directly.

Orcas Choral Society: Spring concerts on Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 17 at 3 p.m. at the Orcas Center. Tickets, $10 for adults and $3 for students and children.

Essay writing: College essay writing workshop at The Funhouse, Saturday May 16 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and Sunday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

OIPP annual meeting: Orcas Island Prevention Partnership will hold its annual meeting at the Orcas Senior Center at 5 p.m.

Bilbo’s dinner: American Cancer Society/Relay for Life fundraiser dinner at Bilbo’s. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.; no reservations. $15 adults, $8 kids. $10 of each adult meal and $5 for each kid meal plus all tips will go to Relay for Life.

Garden club lecture: Orcas Island Garden Club program to feature Colleen Burrows from Whatcom County Extension talking about small fruit production. 10 a.m. in the Madrona Room of Orcas Center.

Early birds: Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival “Early Birds” event, 5 a.m., adjacent to the Orcas Center Box Office.
