During the month of June, a selection of paintings by local artist Josie Barrow will hang on the walls of Key Bank in Eastsound.
This group of paintings will include several recent pastels of faces. Some are children from around the world. There are also some watercolor paintings of groups of women. Barrow says that she paints fiction, so don’t expect to see anyone you know depicted in these portraits. Several years ago Barrow did a series of paintings of legs with shadows, and she has included some of these as well. Pastel is the current medium of choice for Barrow, who worked in watercolor for 15 years.
Barrow studied Art and Design at the University of Washington, but did very little painting until retiring to Orcas Island. She took classes and workshops from Jean Putman and Caroline Buchanan, as well as workshops on Vancouver Island, La Conner and California.
